Certification & the Law

The Rossendale Group has produced a document, 'Lifting Equipment and the Law RD177' as an aid to anyone who wants to know today's legal position in respect to use, inspection and certification of lifting equipment.

There are currently five pieces of legislation which affect people whose work bring them into contact with lifting equipment. These Acts and Regulations are:

• The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
• The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
• The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
• The Supply of Machinery (Safety) (Amendment) Regulations 1994 and the EC Machinery Directive 98/37/EC
• The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
